The Global Sullivan Principles are intended to be a catalyst and compass for corporate responsibility and accountability. They are aspirational not apologetic...celebratory not punitive. The Global Sullivan Principles advance a development framework that enables businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to pursue their business objectives while being mindful and respectful of employees and the communities in which they operate.
The objectives of the Global Sullivan Principles are to support economic, social and political justice by companies where they do business; to support human rights and to encourage equal opportunity at all levels of employment, including racial and gender diversity on decision making committees and boards; to train and advance disadvantaged workers for technical, supervisory and management opportunities; and to assist with greater tolerance and understanding among peoples; thereby, helping to improve the quality of life for communities, workers and children with dignity and equality.
"These are principles that have become universal, that are well known to all of us. Principles that talk about corporate responsibility for those nations that are in need."
"These principles... not only helped transform South Africa, they helped transform public and political opinion here in America and changed the way that so many American companies do business in South Africa and around the world."
General Colin Powell
Former Secretary of State
May 7, 2005

"The principles that Reverend Sullivan pioneered are still looked at as a framework for appropriate behavior and conduct by businesses in Africa."
Hillary Rodham Clinton
U.S. Senator
June 17, 2004

"The spirit of the Sullivan Principles remains as important and as relevant as ever."
Dr. Condoleezza Rice
National Security Advisor
(now U.S. Secretary of State)
